# Core Plugins Overview

This document covers the core plugins that come bundled with Obsidian. Core plugins are officially built and supported by the Obsidian team and provide essential functionality for note-taking, organization, and workflow management. They are included within the application and can be enabled or disabled through the Settings interface.

For information about third-party extensions, see [Community Plugins and Security](/content/obsidianmd/obsidian-help/5.2-functions-and-formulas/index.html). For detailed coverage of the Bases database system, see [Bases Database System](/content/obsidianmd/obsidian-help/2-obsidian-sync-service/index.html). For sync and publishing capabilities, see [Synchronization and Publishing Services](/content/obsidianmd/obsidian-help/3-obsidian-publish-service/index.html).

## Core Plugin System Architecture

Core plugins extend Obsidian's base functionality through a modular architecture where each plugin provides specific capabilities that integrate with the main application framework.

### Format Converter Plugin Capabilities

The Format Converter plugin provides batch conversion capabilities for migrating content from other note-taking applications to Obsidian format. It includes support for syntax conversion and property format updates.

## Integration with Cloud Services

Core plugins integrate with Obsidian's cloud services through dedicated plugins:

- **Sync Plugin**: Provides device synchronization capabilities with end-to-end encryption
- **Publish Plugin**: Enables publishing notes as public websites

These plugins connect the local vault to remote services while maintaining the core plugin architecture patterns.

## Official Plugin Extensions

### Importer Plugin Classification

The Importer plugin represents a special category - it's officially maintained by the Obsidian team but distributed through the Community plugin store rather than being bundled as a core plugin.
